Moving your accounting to Odoo

A sound migration starts with an agreement on what moves, when it moves and how you verify the result.

Agree the handover

Set the start date and required history with your accountant. Identify who supplies the source files, performs checks and approves the change.

Collect data and documents

Include accounts, customers, suppliers, journals, open items and source documents. List what is available and what is missing. An aggregate balance alone is not enough for every migration.

Check before importing

Look for duplicate contacts, missing references and discrepancies between exports. Align configuration with your Odoo version and your accountant's requirements.

Run a trial migration

Test an agreed dataset. Compare balances, outstanding invoices and attached documents with the source. Resolve discrepancies before the final handover.

Keep the launch traceable

Define when the old system stops and how new transactions are handled during the transition. Keep an export and a record of what moved. Obtain approval from the responsible people before a production migration.

Help the team continue

Check access and explain how employees and the accountant follow up documents, invoices and payments. Agree where post-migration questions and discrepancies are reported.

Your preparation checklist

  • Start date and responsibilities agreed
  • Source files and documents listed
  • Open items and balances compared
  • Trial migration reviewed
  • Launch and follow-up approved

Agree the implementation with your IT owner and, for accounting, your accountant.
